Opening of Hāʻena State Park & Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park. Hāʻena State Park (SP) and Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park (SWP) are now open! ... Both Hāʻena State Park and the Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park were closed from April 2018 to June 2019 following severe flooding on the north shore of Kauaʻi.

If no permits are available, you can still enjoy the Kalalau Trail for a day hike (day-use reservations required). You can hike to Hanakāpīʻai beach (4-Mile round trip) or to Hanakāpīʻai Falls and back (8-Mile round trip). Permits are available up to a year in advance.

To hike the entire trail and also spend time exploring Kalalau Beach and Valley takes 3-5 days. Most people are day hikers that don't ever make it all the way out to Kalalau.

Finally, if you are not a hiker, you can see the NaPali Coast by driving to Polihale Beach or Kee Beach where you have stunning views down the coastline or by driving past Waimea Canyon in Kokee State Park and stopping at either the Kalalau Lookout or Pu'u o Kila overlook which is the start of the Pihea Trail.

Napali – The cliffs.

Drive to the end of the highway on Kauai's Northwest shore. You will find parking at Ke'e beach, and the trailhead is off of the parking lot, about 20 yards from the beach.

In order to hike past Hanakāpī'ai Beach along the Kalalalau Trail a valid Camping Permit for Napali Coast State Wilderness Park is required. ... However, Camping Permits for Kalalau Valley also allow for camping at Hanakoa Valley, which is located roughly 6-miles from the trailhead at Hā'ena State Park.

Day hiking is allowed without a permit up to Hanakapi'ai Valley (2 miles in from trailhead) however Parking or Park Entry Reservations are required for Haena State Park. Anyone proceeding beyond Hanakapi'ai must possess a valid NaPali Coast SWP camping permit. Camping permits may be applied for 30-days* in advance.

The total elevation gain is well over 5,000 feet each way. The climb from sea level to high altitude and back earns the trail its 9-out-of-10 difficulty rating. But besides being difficult, the Na Pali Coast Trail is also considered one of the most dangerous trails.Aug 29, 2019

The classic approach to backpacking the Na Pali is to backpack to the half way point at Hanakoa Valley and decamp. This offers a welcome break for sore muscles and from a heavy pack. The next day, with a lighter pack, a couple of hours brings you to the saddle of Red Hill with the paradisaical view of Kalalau Valley.Apr 9, 2021

• If you’re willing to put in some work, you can hike into the heart of the Napali Coast for some pretty incredible views. While the full hike is 22 miles round trip (and requires a hard to come by camping permit), the first two miles (four miles round trip) of the Kalalau Trail is open to day hikers.

• Ke’e Beach at the Kalalau trailhead is one of the best spots for snorkeling on the island. It offers shallow pools with a protected reef and lifeguards, making it much safer for swimmers than other area beaches. Hanalei is the closest major town to the park. Because of this, most of the Nāpali Coast charters leave from Hanalei Bay.
